Electricity Disconnection Threat
Fake messages threatening power disconnection unless you pay immediately
How this scam works
Scammers send urgent messages claiming your electricity (or gas) will be disconnected within hours unless you make an immediate payment. They provide fake payment links or phone numbers that steal your money or banking details.
These messages are designed to create panic, especially in the evening when people fear losing power overnight. Real electricity companies send multiple notices through official channels before any disconnection.
Warning signs
- ⚠️Extreme urgency: "tonight", "within 2 hours"
- ⚠️Demand for immediate payment via UPI or link
- ⚠️Phone number to call that's not official
- ⚠️Threat of disconnection without prior notices
- ⚠️Generic message without your account number or consumer ID
- ⚠️Links that don't match official electricity board website
Real examples
“URGENT: Your electricity connection will be disconnected tonight at 9:30 PM due to pending bill of Rs.1,847. Pay immediately: electricitypay.in/quick”
Electricity companies send multiple notices before disconnection. They don't use random payment links.
“BSES Alert: Due to non-payment your power supply will be cut today. Pay Rs.2100 now. Contact: 8765432109 or visit bescom-pay.com”
Fake website domain, unofficial phone number, same-day disconnection threats are red flags.
